Kevin. New England. Some of my interests include sci-fi, sci-non-fi, music theory, humor, and Alaska (grew up there). My age makes me more or less a grandparent on tumblr, but I'm not really that old. Not yet, at least. But probably older than you. Just saying.

I started this blog with the intention of creating and capturing cool stuff I find. A scrapbook, if you will.

When I find good internets, I will make them happen here. Check back often for more internets.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine | 1993-1999
This is where the adventure is. This is where heroes are made.

ALL THE FEELINGS

Epic gifset. Look at Baby Jake turning into Full Grown Man Jake!

I think the saddest one is Bashir.  He’s so wide-eyed and full of optimism at the beginning and by the end, he’s seen friends die after years of war.  The galaxy is a harsher, uglier place to him now, and you can see it in his face.

The Sisko and Picard meet again.

Season 1 Episode 2 “Emissary”

I’m watching this episode right now.

In case people didn’t know, DEEP SPACE NINE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR NETFLIX STREAMING (US only, though.  Sorry everywhere else).

SISKO: How’s the local synthale?

QUARK: You won’t like it. I love the Bajorans. Such a deeply spiritual culture, but they make a dreadful ale. Never trust ale from a god-fearing people, or a Starfleet Commander that has one of your relatives in jail.

Season 1 Episode 1 “Emissary”

Ouch, Quark, way to stick the knife in! Pretty saucy for a guy wearing his brother’s nose.

As soon as I saw it, I KNEW something was off with Quark’s face!

I have been searching for this book ever since I started my DS9 rewatch and I finally found it stashed in a box in the attic. It is comes from a massive collection of Star Trek stuff that I had as a kid, but it is one of the few pieces that I kept. It is The Nitpicker’s Guide for Deep Space Nine Trekkers, which is basically an episode-by-episode guide to the series, with a brief plot synopsis, then a list of observations, from continuity errors to technical errors to plot holes. Extremely nerdy obsessive stuff basically. I had two other books that covered The Next Generation, but this only only goes up to the end of season four of DS9; I remember being very disappointed that they didn’t publish a second volume! I really loved this book as a kid though. You can see from the photo that it is rather worn out! I got it one Christmas and spent ages lying on the sofa reading it, and annoying my family by reading out excerpts, then being puzzled that they didn’t find it as funny as I did (the book has a wonderfully sarcastic tone). Every time I watched an episode that the book covered I would reread the relevant section to see if I spotted any of the goofs and the check if I could answer the trivia question. I did mention that I used to be an extremely nerdy, Star Trek-obsessed child, right?! Anyway, I was so pleased when I found it again as I was sure that I had not thrown it out, and I’ve been reading bits and pieces of it as I watch through the show again. While it is still pedantic nerdy stuff, it is also still funny.

I also had TNG volumes 1 and 2, DS9, as well as TOS (which covered the show and movies 1-6).  I loved Phil Farrand’s nitpicker’s books and was equally obsessed.  I guess when the The Phantom Menace came out, there were a lot of unlicensed Star Wars books that came out, prompting some lawsuits.  This scared off publishers from this kind of material, even though these guides were held up as an example of what was acceptable.  So sad!
